Stop Annexation

stop ALL NC annexations

Now that we were able to stop the city of Greensboro, we need to help support the efforts some are doing to change the state laws so that North Carolina would be more inline with the other states in the USA.  Please go to the following website to learn more and find out how to help.  www.stopNCannexation.com

WE WON!!!!

We won!!!

We did what most said was IMPOSSIBLE!!!

Maybe we should talk about all the things you can do for your family with your extra money.  I would like to put together a community gathering soon so we can continue to get to know our neighbors.

I would also like to thank everyone that helped get the annexation delayed.
Some helped with their time, money, prayers, words, bodies, i feel we would have gotten the result that we did if is was not for all the efforts.  THANK YOU!!!

Please send me an email if you have ideas or thoughts about getting together.  Info@nc-caan.com

Community gathering update

I think we all had a great time at the community gathering yesterday on Sunday March 16th.  it was so awesome to see all the families with their children out playing together, and sharing tier toys.  It was very special for me to meet some of our neighbors, and to be able to talk to them for a few minutes, now the next time a wave I will know more about who I am waving to.

THANKS for coming!

We raise some money to offset some of the cost of the signs, and other expenses that we have.  Thank you all who donated your money for the supplies, food and everything especially your time, to make the party a hit.  Now what we really need to do is write to each of the council members and ask them to DELAY our annexation.  We also MUST fill the meeting room on April 1st at 5:30 so they have to look at each one of us when they vote.

WEB SITE UP!

FYI all the website is up and running.

you can get there at www.nc-caan.com go check it out.  and thank Kevin Bullard next time you see him.

Media coverage

I want to thank WFMY tv for continuing to tell our story on the news.  I was impressed with the coverage last night.  I thought that Heather Armstrong explained what was going on very well.

THANK YOU HEATHER!!!

here is the link to the coverage. http://www.digtriad.com/video/?aid=190297&storyid=99645&cat=57

It was nice that the city of Greensboro responded from our request, with the a community meting last night and one on the west side of town on Thursday.  For us to get a chance to talk with the different city departments.  I had hoped that more of the community would have shown up to learn some more and ask questions.  I found it interesting to talk to the officers from the police department and hear their answers to the under staffing in their department and how they are dealing with the Gangs in Greensboro.  I just hope the gangs dont find us and that they can hire and train all the police that they need.  Is more than a bit concerning to me to hear from them how under staffed they are and then to learn the time line to train and prepare an officer, before they can start to protect us.  maybe sometime in 2009 or 2010 we will have the correct number of officers.

We still need to write letters to each council members explaining your (our) concerns.  they still have the final vote.  we also need to show up in mas to the April 1st City council meeting.  we should be there at 5:15 pm.

Don't forget the party we are having in the Whitehurst village part this Sunday March 16 th from 12:30-3:30 PM

yard signs

look for new yard signs to start showing up around the neighborhood!!! they look great however there is a misspelling on the blog site listed on the yard sign, however we have fixed so that if they go the address on the yard sign they will be redirected to the correct blog site.  sorry for the mix up.

police update

Lyle showed me in the news paper where they reported that at any given time there are between 14 - 20 police officers on duty.  If there are 240,000 residents in Greensboro that would make the ratio 1/ 12,000!.  and if you read the report that the city had to prepare for the annexation areas, that report details that the coverage is 2.46 police per 1,000 residents.  If my math is correct: they say they coverage would be 1.25/ 500 and if the news paper data is correct the city is protected at a coverage of 1/ 12,000.  and they think that they can and SHOULD annex our area that is 5 + miles away from the main city.  i say NO they CAAN't protect us.  I am sorry but that is not even close.  Just another reason why they should delay our annexation.

Fox 8 News report

here is the link to the Fox 8 story about the Feb 20th meeting www.myfoxwghp.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail;jsessionid=F093351B5D67C1450865E599588BBEC2?contentId=5836739&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=1.1.1&sflg=1

Feb 20 meeting update

Way to go!!

I thought I would send out a quick up-date from this evening meeting at Sedalia Elementary.  I was very satisfied with the turnout and with everyone that spoke and shared from their heart.  I want you all to hear the answer that council member Mary Rakestraw said when at the end I asked her “What is your position on this annexation?”  she said “I oppose this annexation

The purpose of the meeting was to  explain our concerns to one or two council members.  Therefore they could ask questions of us and form an informed opinion about this annexation decision for themselves before they have to vote.

We are doing what we can!  I am proud of  each of you that took your time to come out and to stay informed and helping promote the cause.  If enough of us keep fighting I believe we have a opportunity to delay this annexation for a few years.  Our words resonated very well with both Dick Hails, from city planning, and with council member Rakestraw this evening.  I think if we can keep this up and work with a few more council members, and if we fill the council meeting room on April 1st  we will get a favorable decision.  THAT WILL BE SO AWESOME!!

Council member T. Dianne Bellemy-Small was not able to make the meeting, she came down with a cold this afternoon.   She will meet with us.

A few reminders from council member Rakestraw, 1. Stay connected with our group, 2. Talk to each council member 3. Send a personal letter (not a form letter) to each council member 4. Attend each and every meeting to make your voice heard.

Ohhh yea, we had some great coverage on the T.V. at 10pm on Fox news.
